DeepMind Co-founder Proposes New Test to Measure AI Intelligence

Rather than comparing AI to humans, Suleyman proposes a new benchmark for measuring AI intelligence: the ability of a chatbot to turn $100,000 into $1 million. He calls this the "modern Turing test." This test, based on "artificial capable intelligence" (ACI), focuses on the bot's capacity to accomplish short-term goals and tasks with minimal human intervention.

To pass the ACI test, an AI bot would receive a $100,000 seed investment and be tasked with researching an e-commerce business idea, formulating a product plan, identifying a manufacturer, and successfully selling the item. Suleyman anticipates that AI will reach this significant milestone within the next two years.

Suleyman's perspective challenges us to consider not only what a machine can say but also what it can do. By shifting the focus to tangible achievements, we gain a deeper understanding of AI's potential and its alignment with human-like intelligence.
